How lucky we were with the weather after all the rain we had previous days in the lead up to our Art Exhibition on the railings and in the Caldicot Methodist Chapel hall.

A steady flow of visitors throughout the day browsed the display of our artists work and from remarks overheard everyone went away happy, visitors who had viewed the display and those that had managed to sell some of their paintings and others that had just displayed their work.

Judith did a fine job of demonstrating the techniques of sketching, thank you Judith and all our members and Jack who helped to make the day a success.

We have yet to have a count up but the chapel will be receiving a percentage of all sales.

Today everyone had a wonderful lunch and an enjoyable time as can be seen in the photographs.

An end of year gift was presented by Tony to our convenor Sue. Sue went on to thank us all and hoped we had a successful year painting in 2010.

Water colour artist Vivien Bowman was born in Accrington, Lancashire, and from an early age her work was influenced by the open vistas and grandeur of the Lancashire moorlands and the nearby Pennines. She was particularly fascinated by rocks, strata and fossils she found around her.

Photo: Vivien Bowman

Since moving to Chepstow about ten years ago, she has found new inspiration in the Monmouthshire countryside, in its ancient buildingf, in the River Wye and the nearby Severn and in the neighbouring Forest of Dean.

Living in the area she has developed an increasing appreciation of the surrounding flora, fungi and wildlife, which are reflected in her paintings.

Monnow Bridge, Monmouth watercolour by Vivien Bowman

As a consequence of her love of animals, Vivien often finds herself commissioned to create lifelike portraits of much-loved pets.

Building on her previous experience as a lecturer in further education, she now also runs painting courses at Chepstow Hospital, providing a therapy for people suffering from strokes and Parkinson's disease.

WE are very fortunate to have Vivien as a member of our Art group, providing her experience and help to members at our art classes, as all of our members do.

Caldicot U3A are very lucky to have so many talented members in their Art group.
